With the excellent help of Gene Osborn and Rich Brown, we have documented every step of my way of making a Sub-hilt
that we could possibly think of for this DVD. We go from a raw piece of ATS-34 bar stock to the completed product,
including the following:
Layout of the blade on the steel, sawing out the blade on the band saw, layout of the edge and guard/sub-hilt and the
tang, locating and drilling of needed holes, grinding the blade, tapering the tang on the grinder, making and
installing the guard, re-grinding the blade after heat treat, each step of polishing the blade, soldering of the guard,
assembly and finishing of the handle, even etching the trademark and sharpening. Materials/equipment used are
covered.
Much of what we do and show applies to making of a knife, in general, not just a sub-hilt. If you have any questions
after viewing the DVD, please feel free to call or email me. My contact information is included in the package. I'm
always glad to talk with any knifemaker, be they beginner or veteran. Thanks for considering this DVD.
